I live in a two entomologist household. It is quite often that when I go to the grocery store I will be
told something like: “don’t forget the Dectes colony needs fresh green beans” or “pick up more rearing containers”. Very little modern produce has insect damage and that means that produce section isn’t as interesting as it could be. Kelly (the #1 entomologist in the house) bought some ginger root today and there was a dead, crushed earwig on it when we brought it home. I can’t tell you where the ginger came from, and I have no keys for the order Dermaptera. The insect is about 4mm in length. If any person reading this has a clue as to what the identity of this insect is, or are researching insect pests of spices, please get in touch.
